The problem of the optimal selection of the calibers of conductors in radial distribution networks is addressed in this research through the application of the discrete-continuous version of the sine-cosine algorithm. The implementation of proposed optimization algorithm is made in the MATLAB programming environment for two test feeders composed of 8 and 27 nodes, respectively. The numerical results for both test feeders are validated in the DigSILENT simulation tool than ensures the feasibility of the optimal solutions obtained through the evaluation of the classical Newton-Raphson power flow method. Comparative results with the Chu & Beasley Genetic Algorithm and the solution on the exact Mixed-Integer Nonlinear Programming Model in the GAMS software corroborate the effectiveness of the proposed optimization method.
