Estudio de la reducción de Fe(III) estructural en un mineral de arcilla 1:1

En el presente trabajo se estudió la reducción del Fe(III) estructural a Fe(II) contenido en un mineral de arcilla tipo haloisita (mineral 1:1) de origen colombiano. La reacción se desarrolló en dos ambientes reductivos: en atmósfera inerte y en presencia de aire. La modificación estructural se evaluó por difracción de rayos X y por espectroscopía IR. Las técnicas de análisis indicaron una reducción efectiva del hierro(III) en ambos ambientes, con favorabilidad en atmósfera inerte. Los resultados mostraron que el mecanismo de reducción de Fe(III) a Fe(II) descrito en trabajos anteriores, para minerales esmectíticos, es aplicable a la haloisita estudiada.
