MIX AND LEGITIMACY: SOCIAL, ETHNIC AND OCCUPATIONAL CLASSIFICATION OF THE FREE FOLK OF SAN ANTONIO DE QUILICHAO IN THE GOVERNMENT OF POPAYAN (1740-1808)

Abstract

In this article we want to show, from the case of San Antonio of Quilichao Popayán governorate during the second half of eighteenth century, as free people, settled in the site of Quilichao, can be recovering the legitimacy that loss, fruit of the mixture racial in the that converge whites, mulattos, blacks, browns, e Indians in this town, through two visions: first the construction of the repute through the neighborhood and the acceptance of religion –within the legal category of vassalage–; the other was which of exercise of a corporate assignment by his job.
